Prescription line being discontinued
We are going to discontinue our prescription refill line as of this Friday, May 20. There are currently multiple ways patients can request refills (by phone message, through the pharmacy, through the patient portal). We hope that by streamlining this process we can process requests in a timely fashion.
We often use the terms “refill” and “renewal” interchangeably, but they are two different things. Prescriptions are often sent for 30 days’ worth, with a certain number of refills. This means when you are low, you can call the pharmacy directly and they will give you a refill, another 30 day bottle without having to contact us. When those refills are used up, you have to then contact us to send the pharmacy a fresh prescription. This is a prescription renewal. (Note, controlled substances are not allowed to have refills, which is why we need to be contacted for every prescription in those cases)
So starting next week, the preferred method to request prescription renewals will be through the patient portal. When logged into the portal, you are able to access your (or your child’s) current medication list as we have it on file. You can then choose the medication you need and send us a renewal request. This one-minute video illustrates the process. For refills still remaining on a prescription, you may contact the pharmacy directly. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call. We hope this streamlines the process of obtaining necessary medications for your child.
