COVID-19 Vaccination for Pediatrics
/We have started to receive phone calls about the availability of the COVID-19 Vaccine for our patients. As of right now, children 16 years old or older are eligible for the vaccine if they have an underlying high-risk health condition. All children 16 and older will be eligible as of April 6. Unfortunately, though we have been registered as a site for vaccine administration for some time, physician offices are lower on the list for receipt of vaccine (even adult internist offices, let alone pediatricians). We strongly recommend getting a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as you are eligible, but as of this time you will have to seek it out via the local vaccine administration hubs (state and federal run, pharmacies, etc). FYI, these have differing requirements for eligibility which may be stricter than the state/federal guidelines at any time. When it appears we will be receiving vaccine, we will post to our website and social media with up to date information.
We have placed links for an FAQ about COVID vaccine in pediatrics and the Finger Lakes COVID Vaccine Hub on our COVID-19 page.
As for the younger children, here is a hot-off-the-presses article in Scientific American about the progress in testing and rolling out the vaccine for the younger ages, including conversation with our very own Dr. Jennifer Nayak from Golisano Children’s Hospital!
