COVID bivalent (omicron) vaccine now available
/We have received our first doses of the Pfizer COVID bivalent (omicron-included) vaccine. At first we will only be giving these out through clinic days (run just like our flu shot clinics). We will not have this on the patient portal, if you would like an appointment please call!
Patients eligible for the bivalent booster are anyone:
12 years of age or older
Have completed primary series (at least 2 doses) - can also have had booster shot
Is at least 2 months past the most recent COVID vaccine dose received (primary or booster)
We are starting this in clinics only because (as with previous roll-outs of COVID vaccine) supply is limited at first and the logistics of the vaccine are tricky (can only be thawed for so long, all doses have to be used out of a vial, etc). While supply is limited we do not want to have the situation of getting to the end of the day having given 11 doses and having to then waste the other 9 doses in the vial. Scheduling patients in clinic slots allows us to give just the right number of shots per day. As supply loosens we will be able to offer it at other office visits (as we have with the 6m-5y Moderna vaccine).
