NFL setting a good example!
/Recently, Sam Darnold, the quarterback for the New York Jets, came down with mono (to the lament of Dr. Sullo, the lone Jets fan at the office). Right now they are in a scramble to find a back up quarterback, because the team doctor has stated he needs to be kept out of competition for three weeks.
We sometimes find it difficult to explain to our teen athletes why you need to miss some time, sometimes even including an important game, with certain injuries and illnesses. It’s more difficult when they see pro athletes not missing the same time for the same issues. Recently, the NFL has started to do a better job treating concussions appropriately. The recommended time out of competition for a case of mono is three weeks. So this is a good lesson that even at the highest levels of competition, a person’s health comes first!
